Provisional European Agreement on Air Pollution

By Koen Verberne 8 years ago

On 30 June 2016 the Council and the European Parliament reached a provisional agreement on a directive to reduce emissions of air pollutants. This “new NEC Directive” sets stricter national limits from 2020 to 2029 and from 2030 onwards.

The aim of this directive is to address the health risks and environmental impact of air pollution and align EU law with international commitments.

A reliable and objective monitoring system is needed to evaluate if governments are compliant to the directive. The atmospheric Sentinels are valuable assests to improve air pullutant measurements in all European regions.
